Honeymoon on the island of Hvar
by Krzysztof & Grażyna from Warsaw, Poland

Croatia, September 1999, Trip report sent in Aug, 2002

If you want to fall in love with Croatia, just visit the town of Hvar on the Hvar island. In September 1999 we spent our honey-moon in this place.

Hvar
Hvar and Pakleni Islands

We have visited many places in Croatia, but Hvar seems to be one of the greatest tourist destinations in this country. The medieval town, with palaces built in Venetian style, with narrow stone streets and picturesque port, is just marvellous. Opposite Hvar there is archipelago of small uninhabited islands. This is an ideal place for romantic holidays. According to the Traveller monthly Hvar belongs to ten the most beautiful islands of the world, together with such fames like the Ponza, Bali, Mykonos and others.

As this is hard to find a good beach in town, the best thing is to take a taxi boat to one of the above-mentioned nearby islands of so called the Pakleni Otoci archipelago. The two nearest islands (Jerolim & Stipanska) are for naturists only, the third one (Palmizana) is much bigger and has textile and nude beaches. In 1999 return fare for taxi boat was 10 kunas for Jerolim and Stipanska and 25 kunas for Palmizana.

We spent whole days on the Stipanska. The beaches close to mini marina were rather crowded, but we found a very peaceful bay where we stayed alone. The nearest couple took sun-bathing 50 m far away from us. We can recommend this place for shy beginners. Beaches are rocky so it is good to take a mattress. There is a mini bar on the island so you should not get hungry.

OK, so go to Hvar. You will not be disappointed. A few years ago a friend of mine came to Hvar for one week…. and stayed a month.

This year we go to Croatia once again. On our way back from the Lastovo island we are going to make a stop-over in Hvar. Hope to see you!
